Education, Training and Volunteering

We know that finding a job is not always easy for someone with a criminal conviction, with obstacles and stigma attached – even long after the sentence has been served.

Direction for Bedfordshire is here to help overcome those difficulties. Through our information website you can contact recruiters who will listen and talk to you about job opportunities and help find the job for you.

Only A Pavement Away

It seemed only sensible to marry the need for new team members within the hospitality industry with those who, with the right opportunity, would be able to get their lives back on track. The project has expanded to include ex-offenders and veterans and gained the support of those in both the penal system and military support groups. It is important to stress that OAPA is not a recruitment agency and focuses solely on helping those on the project find work.

Established in 2010, Walking With The Wounded supports a pathway for vulnerable veterans to re-integrate back into society and sustain their independence. At the heart of this journey is employment. We recognise the inherent skills of our armed service personnel and want to complement these qualities, as well as provide support to transfer their skills into the civilian workplace. We offer assistance through our programmes to those vulnerable veterans who have been physically, mentally or socially disadvantaged by their service and assist them in sustaining their independence through new sustainable careers outside of the military. This includes providing support to homeless veterans and veterans in the Criminal Justice System, areas which are too often ignored.
